SkoolAide, the creator of goal-setting software for teen high school students, has changed its name to Ascend. The name change comes after careful consideration from founding team members and reflects the upward movement the company wants to encourage in each and every person they serve.

“We realized that while many of the goals our student users are setting are academic, many of them fall into different categories— health, financial literacy, wellness, and more,” says CEO and co-founder Reg Gabriel, “which falls in line with our intention to support the whole person, not just grades on a report card.”

The name change also addresses the wider customer base the company serves. “We also work with mentoring organizations, and we want all of the people and organizations we serve to feel empowered through using our platform,” adds Christine Nicodemus, COO and co-founder.

Ascend is launching a new version of its people empowerment platform in January 2020 with many schools and mentoring organizations throughout Charlotte, Raleigh-Durham, and beyond.

Ascend’s update aligns the efforts of leaders, mentors, and goal-setters for greater individual achievement and organizational impact. The new version:

  • Enables organizations to cultivate, track, and measure individual goals and program outcomes,
  • Empowers mentors, teachers, counselors, and parents with a meaningful and impact-guided way to connect with their mentees, and
  • Engages goal-setters in a purposeful journey through gamified goals in collaboration with their accountability partners and mentors.

The Ascend platform update features a fresh user interface, which includes goal-setting and task management modules, a support team module for students to track and connect with their networks, and a strengths assessment and college and career search interface. The platform update will also provide better analytics to school and mentoring administrative users.

“We see the potential for our platform to serve people in helping them overcome challenges, stay focused on their goals, and reach their desired outcomes. Our ultimate goal at Ascend is to provide a digital platform that can help people move above and beyond the circumstances they were born into by creating goals, facing their hurdles as challenges that build knowledge and perseverance, and by connecting with a network of caring and helpful individuals,” said Nicodemus.
