Ascend COO Christine Nicodemus and Director of School and Student Success Missi Rossi conducted design-thinking and marketing planning workshops at Mallard Creek High School in Charlotte, NC on Tuesday, November 19, 2019. The workshops were an opportunity for Mallard Creek Career and Technical Education (CTE) students to learn about a company in the local tech industry and how products are designed.
Students brainstormed on goal-setting best practices, then worked on designing their own goal-setting mobile apps. “While designing their own goal-setting apps, they came up with everything from an app that recommends your bedtime based on your age and work you had to do the next day, an app that sent you relevant memes every time you finished a task, to an app where you had to finish assignments to benefit the health of a virtual dog you were in charge of taking care of,” said Nicodemus.
The classroom time was an opportunity for students to experience the product design and marketing process, and for Ascend team members to connect with the people who ultimately use their software– teen students.
“As I was reflecting on the day, I became grateful for the incredible creativity of our youth. As we become more experienced professionals and learn more about the ‘constraints’ of building products, I hope we never lose the willingness to dream big and spend time with our end users,” said Nicodemus.
